Up-date on Meryl's Mother, Beryl
Sat 19 Nov 05
Meryl arrived safely back in the USA on Saturday, although delayed several hours in UK due to foggy weather. We all arrived safely at Toby’s place at Malta, 20 miles north of Albany, NY.
Beryl came out of hospital and went home on Thursday 17 November and Meryl had a good 24 plus hours with her before she left last Saturday 19 November to fly back to Newark, NJ.
Beryl is doing as well as might be expected given her current ailments, but for how long? Please keep her in your prayers.
She is now having home care help twice a day but is not really excited about it. Meryl was firm about her needing it though, as was the home help lady herself. Also she will have the services of a local Red Cross volunteer who will accompany her to the town once a week for up to 6 weeks and help her with anything she needs, for example, going to the library. She already has help to do her shopping once a week. It’s about as good as she can get if she is going to continue to live by herself, which she wants to do.
Meryl thinks she can live alone for a while longer as do the local social services folk, who provide the home help. The principle in UK is to allow people to live in their own homes for as long as it is possible, wise and feasible, and it is still just about all those. Meryl and I feel that, when the time comes for Beryl to move, it is likely she will miss the care home option which she has her name down for (still no vacancies yet) and will probably need to go to full care.
Thank you all so very much for your prayers for Beryl over the last three or four weeks. They have been royally answered! And we are very blessed and grateful that He has allowed us to go ahead with our, long standing plan to be together as a family in the USA for Thanksgiving.
